As per this Financial Times article, it's a global trend with the sharpest divide in South Korea (among the countries that data was collected from).

How they look depends a little on the paper used and the pen. On Tomoe River paper both inks look teal-ish in swatches - but not in writing. They look warmer on Jaquere swatch cards. Also, they are VERY similar. I'm not entirely convinced they are different inks at all.
