American culture lacks cohesion. Comprehensiveness itself can never aspire to a unity both edifying and transformative. Cohesion provides the connecting tissue that is called upon to pull together as a team. The residual is value.

On the surface it teems with victories for plurality, diversity, and comprehensiveness. But the pursuit of individual excellence induces collective anemia. Idols with no ideology. There is no substitute for winning but there are no unifying goals worthy of victory.

They transmogrify into surrogate heroes for the masses as civic leaders, crusaders for justice, captains of industry, and masters of the arts and athletic agility. But there is no team effort. Everyone is out for themselves.

Culture suffers. It suffers from schizophrenia. Individuals thrive in this environment but culture itself undergoes a personality disorder. There is no agenda higher than the four aspirational dreams.
