As a child, The Martian Chronicles opened my eyes to the wonder of horror, Chronicles of Prydain to fantasy. Problematic as they are now, Gaiman's Sandman & Simmons' Hyperion as a teen. Pratchett in my 20's, and by then every book that caught my eye changed me in some way from minute to grandly.

As a boringly straight white male of middle age, with a queer kid and trans friends, in the red state of MO, who has lost friends to MAGA... this may be too much to ask. Still, I hold out some hope.

If we could just have a little less stupidity, I don't know, maybe as a treat, I would be most grateful.

55 whole years without one yet, even with German ancestry.

Well, OK, it is German Jew ancestry, but they married Lutherans once they got to the States, so things got odd very quickly, & ANYWAY, dammit, he seemed to have so much potential, so I'm really more angry about more rampant stupidity

Given that so many of these people have betrayed the teachings they claim to follow and have made our world so much worse than it needs to be, I shall be happy to be rid of them.

I rather suspect they may not be going in the direction they expect.

"Man Trouble" in 1992 starring Jack Nicholson and Ellen Barkin.
One of only two films I've ever walked out of.
I'm not saying it actually led to my divorce, but it was, in fact, our last date night.

Fuck those people. Our differences make us stronger, more interesting, more vibrant. Embrace the person around you who is NOT like you, and teach and learn from them, because that makes us all more knowledgeable and capable of understanding each other, which is FUCKING NECESSARY.
