Until this year, the Justice Department had never used the “pattern or practice” law — historically a tool to investigate police misconduct — on behalf of gun owners. Harmeet K. Dhillon, head of the Civil Rights Division, has suggested that the DOJ’s gun rights work is just getting started.
At the Justice Department, Civil Rights Now Means Gun Rights
The Civil Rights Division was created to protect the disempowered. Under Trump, it's working to dismantle gun restrictions.

Redistricting efforts in Texas and California have grabbed headlines, but similar fights are playing out across the country.

However, Utah’s case is unique. Their redistricting fight was spearheaded by Utah voters, who ultimately won.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

The Coast Guard reversed its 'swastikas aren't all that bad' policy just hours after the Washpost broke the story.

It's both surprising, and good, to see that one government agency these days is capable of being embarrassed, and changing course quickly.

In reversal, Coast Guard again classifies swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The new order came hours after The Post reported the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under guidelines set for release next month.

Happy Friday, friendos.

Time to rise and grind with an ear worm that was the best song I heard on my commute to work:

"Well I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off the grin
I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies"

Remember just 81 years ago, American and allied solders were dying in France, Belgium and other European countries to ensure the enemy wearing this “potentially divisive” symbol would be overwhelmingly defeated.
"The Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika as a hate symbol.

"Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi insignia as 'potentially divisive' under its new guidelines.

"The new policy similarly downgrades the definition of nooses and the Confederate flag."
