If you're cis, one thing I'd like to impart with regards to trans people is that you are being lied to on an almost unfathomable scale, from billionaires like Musk, to religious fundamentalist groups, to print and broadcast media, to entire governments, they're committed to spreading malinformation.
Literally this.

If you are a cis person, even if you are an expert in some field that affects trans people, and you *think* you know some facts about trans people, I can almost guarantee you believe some things that are insanely wrong.
It blows my mind every day. I think a lot of it also has to do with preconceived notions almost everyone has from all the myths they've heard their entire life about trans people. They think they already know everything, so why listen

I believe that when you dehumanize another person, you lose a piece of your humanity. Conservatives are doing it at such a scale that there is no shred of humanity left in most of them.

I think I need to learn German. There seems to be a word for everything, but none of the dumb redundancy of English.
I have a question for you all!
are you suffering from

WELTSCHMERZ?

Weltschmerz: A German word capturing the melancholy and disillusionment that comes from seeing the world's suffering and feeling powerless to change it. It's a sense of world-weariness and a longing for something more...

Bluesky is great and refreshing and needed at this time in history. However, it is growing so rapidly that at some point the question of financial sustainability will need to be asked. I, for one, would welcome a pay-what-you-can model. Our attention is the dominant commodity on social media.

Maybe it's because I'm a normal human being, but I don't understand why would you want to follow people you hate to a new platform so you can harass them more. Like...why aren't you happy in cesspit you made for yourselves? You got the "town square" that you wanted: A bunch of shrieking bigots.

A key feature of Bluesky is its algorithmic neutrality, which gives us back ownership of attention. An open API allows for a "marketplace of algorithms" in the form of feeds, putting the users, not a secretive puppet master, in control. This is the real town square in the making. Check out feeds.

Let this be our guiding mantra for this site, it will help this community flourish and grow.
Just my 2 cents. But my goal is to ignore the trolls. Give them zero attention. Block them if they annoy me.

I think the worst thing we can do on this site is re-create the ad hominem/ personal attacks that occur across comments on Twitter/insta/tiktok/ etc

Insult and hate are now the default on other platforms and we expect conversations to be derailed. Bluesky is *trying* to create a safe space that fosters real debate and productive disagreement that have become impossible elsewhere. Getting back to basics with civility and kindness. Bubble up!
