This photo was taken 65 years ago today, right before the Beatles' first of several residencies in Hamburg over the next 2 years. The band included bassist Stu Sutcliffe and new drummer Pete Best. Lennon recalled: "We had to play for hours and hours on end.... . That's what improved the playing."
