1. I'm now convinced that no one captures the full range of Black love on screen the way Brock Akil does. From budding high school sweetheart love, to familial love, to the love her young lead characters develop for themselves, she captures it all, and makes you cry in the process.

2. Too often TV & film reduces Black moms to little more than the source of childhood pain & trauma, especially when those moms are working class. In FOREVER, Black moms are full humans too. As the mom of a neurodivergent Black boy, I felt so seen in Karen Pittman's character, Dawn Edwards.

3. Today's media landscape leaves few opportunities for Black girls to shine as the star of their own stories. Confident, beautiful, determined, flawed, Keisha Clark (brilliantly portrayed by Lovie Simone) is a Black girl protagonist our culture needs in this moment.
