FRANKENSTEIN (2025 dir. guillermo del toro, usa) some incredible gothic visuals & good performances but i don't feel like there was much substance that wasn't already in the book. could have done with an act 3 that was just the monster stalking victor and occasionally tearing an extremity off.

SARABAND FOR DEAD LOVERS (1948 dir. basil dearden, uk) was honestly pretty unmoved by the story (i dont care for movies abt the conflicting duties of european monarchs) but holy SHIT the cinematography and set design are gorgeous. hard to believe this was the studio's first ever colour film.

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962 dir. david lean, uk/usa) spellbindingly vast in scope even today and gripping throughout its crazy long runtime. already want to watch it again on the basis that i missed like 10 minutes making dinner. consensus was totally right.

BAND BAAJA BAARAAT (2010 dir. maneesh sharma, india) really sweet romance story, western romcoms need more hype moments & aura

DALEKS - INVASION EARTH 2150 A.D. (1966 dir. gordon flemyng, uk) this feels like if somebody who'd never seen an episode of doctor who had to guess what they imagine the average episode was probably like. the constant wailing 60s jazz soundtrack made everything like 10x funnier. idc about doctor who

STARMAN (1984 dir. john carpenter, usa) that was so sweet ;_; the sappy romance story being undergridded with sci-fi horror and a dark atmosphere ends up capturing something really raw and real abt what its like to love somebody after they're gone i think

GUARDIAN OF SECRET DREAMS - joshua michael & realm 1 - 11 (2008, usa) this sounds like it was produced in an episode of xavier: renegade angel

FUNK - bulldog mansion (2002, south korea) ended up listening to this bc "happy birthday to me" was in an episode of "there she is!!". its pretty good but idk 60 minutes is a tall ask for an album comprised entirely of inoffensive, upbeat pop-rock.

PHAROAH - pharoah sanders (1977, usa) immediate fucking favourite, holy shit. only complaint was the sax squealing at the start of "love will find a way". i think it was *supposed* to be abrasive but in the middle of music this etheral and vibe-y it was just unwelcome.

INTROSPECTION - luiz bonfá (1972, brazil) very tranquil and mellow, i think this kind of bossa nova is my fav genre involving acoustic guitars

CICERO NIGHTS - blue earth sound (2025, usa) ok i'm starting to wonder if the youtube algorithm has some kind of "you just got on SSRIs for the first time" pipeline of music reccomendations.

FOUR POSTCARDS - hiroshi yoshimura (2004, japan) maybe the most beautiful soundscape i've ever heard? the fact that this was released posthumously only adds to the otherworldliness.

SUN COLORED EYES - mabisyo (2023, chile) extremely lucky youtube algorithm pull, this gets to be my "inaugural sertraline prescription" album

A PICKLE FOR THE KNOWING ONES (1802 auth. timothy dexter, usa) watched the hollowtones stream which is basically an audiobook so i'm counting it. this comparison is made in the stream itself but timothy dexter really was the 18th century's tommy wiseau.

character loosly inspired by punkitt's "flowersteel" concept, will be doing more cleanup + colouring a later stage.

THE CRUSHED VELVET APOCALYPSE - the legendary pink dots (1990, uk/netherlands) i was expecting something way more frenetic from the name and album art but it's surprisingly mellow and hypnotic. imagine halfway between cardiacs and ocarina of time dungeon music and you're pretty much there

idk why this is the thing that my brain has decided i'm going to keep working at and decoding until it looks good but i aint complaining.
