Like the name says, they're a sci-fi/ mystery/ fantasy/ horror shop with a fantastic selection and a wonderful staff. They also get SO many visiting authors so they have lots of signed books (and they ship pretty much anywhere)

A lot of folks in Los Angeles know about The Last Bookstore's downtown location, but they also have a Studio City shop that's a little cozier while staying just as photogenic and atmospheric. It's got the same mix of new and used books plus back issue comics!

Borderlands Books in San Francisco is in a sort of temporary between-space on Haight right now but you'd never be able to tell. It's a beautiful shop with an amazing selection and it's just made to browse in. Nice people, good neighborhood, an easy stroll from the Muni. Go see them now!

Eureka Books in Eureka CA is a little out of the way, but if you're in the area you have to stop by. It's an absolutely GORGEOUS Victorian-style, two-story shop that also happens to have an amazing selection. Plus, they're big supporters of local authors, and even the occasional non-local author 🙂

Parallel Worlds is a sci-fi/ fantasy/horror shop in the northern part of Portland OR. They're relatively new-ish, but I think we'll be hearing more and more about them. New and used books, floor to ceiling shelves, great staff, and lots of nearby restaurants if you want to make it an afternoon out.

I lived in Taiwan in the 70’s and there were tiny little restaurants that served nothing but 7-up and gyoza. 100 NT (less than $2 back then) and you got a huge bottle of 7-up and 100 gyoza. The only choice you made was steamed or fried.

Years ago I made 4 pumpkin pies and 1 mincemeat pie for a group Thanksgiving dinner. As they were cooling on the back of the dryer, my Irish Setter decided to help herself. Pumpkin pies, totally gone. The mincemeat, only one bite taken out of it. Our resident diva had spoken!
