If everyone agrees that the food is too salty, its probably too salty. I dont like this sentiment that seems to be common in gamedev that players are just stupid and dont know what they want.

Why not? You can criticise any part of a game, including its graphics. This doesnt mean a game with unimpressive graphics necessarily looks bad though.
