I am at the Victoria & Albert Museum today & delighted to find “Tippoo’s Tiger,” a wooden statue of a tiger eating a British soldier, which makes the sound of the soldier’s wails when cranked. It was owned by Tipu Sultan of Seringapatam prior to his death at the hands of British soldiers.
A museum display case containing a wooden automaton of a tiger eating the neck of a white man in a red coat and black hat. The man looks distressed but you root for the tiger.
