Spotted this gargantuan nest near Vancouver Lake yesterday. Not yellowjackets - some other kind of wasp.
Large silvery grey wasp nest hangs among the cottonwoods, engulfing some leaves. Slender black wasps flit in and out.

Larch Mountain and Vista House in the Columbia River Gorge

At the end of the road near Vancouver lake. Once you get past the illegal dumping ground there are some magnificent oaks. On the trail to the lake there was a vast patch of wapato (an indigenous food) stretching as far as the eye could see
