Database dork, doing long term care research in the Land 'o Lakes.

Tabletop gamer, comics geek, Dad, partner, cat slave.

Mostly horror fiction, old comics, and cancer survivor posting. Occasional music content, mostly post-rock.
I've been working on SNF quality in MN for 20 years and it is STILL impossible to clearly identify the ownership structure of many of them. Dire situation for effective regulation.

Organizing the record collection and have been playing single sides of things I rarely pull off the shelf. So far:
David Bowie, Low
Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar (just the overture, I'm not a sadist)
Brian Eno, Before and After Science
Yeule, Glitch Princess
Propaganda, Wishful Thinking

We adored the television version a few years back. Matchless Moon is very loveable but awful. That looks like a nice print.

We use a similar technique for movie night.

There's also an element where a lot of TT players have been subjected to abusive play environments where bleed is used as a weapon. That's less common in larp scenes because they have a stronger culture of emotional safety.

Wow. A real strong argument that color is storytelling right there.

Thanks! I think of NoW as more poppy and danceable than they really are. Good reminder to dig out those discs.

Making up for no music during infusion with some home listening. Khruangbin may lurk on the "smooth jazz" end of the post-rock sea, but they are supremely good chill through the sleepy brain hours music.

What other bands are go-to for "chill but interesting" for you?

Yep. That's how they found my completely asymptomatic Stage IV CRC. No substitute for a colonoscopy, but a good "you need to get a colonoscopy, seriously" alarm.

One of the things I love about Traveller. A bunch of post-career misfits in their 30s-50s trying to figure out their second act.

I can relate. Hit both of those around junior year of college and blew my mind. Fortunately I recovered.

That's a top notch cover. Great use of perspective.

I am afraid not, at least not anything directly relevant. General theory of identity phil and anthropology concepts. My scholarly experience with the topic is mostly from decades ago. Kate Bornstein is the ur-reference for me.

Lesser scribes definitely tried to follow Miller's act but missed the subtleties. As is inevitable in a medium so heavily driven by reference and callbacks.

The "teetering on the edge of antihero" Bats has been a bit overdone in the last couple decades.
July 31, 2025 at 11:07 PM
This is the way. Batman is the product of Bruce's trauma, and the two faces are always going to be opposed in destructive ways. Superman, on the other hand, is Clark's aspirational self. Fully human and fully super.

The reification of sexual preference is arguably conservative. Treating it as this fixed, categorical thing in itself rather than a changeable ( to various degrees), culturally mediated, individual difference.

A middle ground might be a good set of high end bookshelf speakers. I bought my daughter a pair of ELAC bookshelf speakers 8 years ago and she still enjoys them. She's a musician and possibly pickier about sound fidelity than me. Q Acoustic is another good mid price option.

Those are some real lovely dice! Perfect for making things worse.
