If you are a supporter and reader of @contingent-mag.bsky.social one of the biggest things you can do to help us at the moment is get this CFP to the NTT folks in your life. The fracturing of social media has made it very difficult to get the word out esp. to adjuncts and VAPs.

“[University Presses] need a Bandcamp moment-people realizing their friends won’t have bands if no one buys music or merch.” Let’s make this happen.
Here's a long thread on an issue dear to my heart. This Tuesday evening I’m doing an Intellectual Publics with Macarena Gomez-Barris on publishing. Like last year’s conversation with Denise Cruz, or the prior year’s with Racquel Gates, we will talk about how to find a publisher, turn a thesis... 1/

I spent the last five years serving public history, arts, and culture at NEH. Please take a moment to let your representatives know you support NEH. Or read on and I can tell you a little bit about why I believe in public funding for the humanities.
On Monday, March 31, 2025 we learned that DOGE is targeting the NEH with the aim of substantially reducing its staff, cutting the agency’s grant programs, and rescinding grants that have already been awarded.

This spring & summer, the University of Oklahoma Press will be rolling out some good books:

—teaching with integrity in the age of AI
—Tulsa 100 years after the Race Massacre
—Cherokee Nation citizenship
—politics of peyote
—Klan in Montana
—eugenics in Texas
—Osage language primer

More! 🧵
As the factual reliability of public discourse collapses, I am especially proud to highlight University of Oklahoma Press books coming out this spring—

Peer-reviewed books that ask hard questions, offer practical wisdom, celebrate art that endures & tell good stories about Oklahoma & beyond.
