As you say: it's not for them unless it's centered on them and like them. A bunch of those, then, see relationships as, like, conquest/ownership/possessiveness. Ick.

It's kinda like women in fandoms are huge and a much better scene, but they don't go browbeating others so you don't hear of them unless you join up.

But most people accusing people of "nostalgia" are just terminating conversation. There's no curiosity in that. The very accusation of someone liking something—worse, over/undervaluing something—because of something explicitly personal *and unrelated to the game itself* is, on its face, absurd.

I've been told I'm nostalgic for gaming culture pre-matchmaking-horseshit, but that isn't a thing, but an absence. I do miss my arcade, but I don't know how much of that is gaming specifically.

There is something about various eras aesthetic appeal, and that's not nostalgia. There's also tech appreciation that doesn't really have a modern analogue: pokemon fitting on that cart is *nuts*, as is just how neat the VMU is, and Sonic losing rings causing slowdown the more you have!? Bangin'.
