EdWeek came back initially with a 1% annual increase. Our membership—who struggle to afford rent and groceries, who rely on subsidies and second jobs to make ends meet—resoundingly said that this wasn’t good enough. EdWeek moved to 1.5%, before discretionary raises. It still isn’t enough.

This is important. Employees deserve the basic dignity of a truly livable wage.
We are asking for a 3.5% annual increase, before discretionary merit raises, and a salary floor of $65,000. Let’s be clear: This is a fair ask, one that is financially solvent and one that doesn’t risk the future of our company. In fact: The future is precisely what we’re worried about.

Programs that provide pre-K and day-care services for kids from low-income families aren't receiving federal $$—despite promises from the Trump administration that the funding freeze is no longer in effect and wouldn’t affect Head Start even if it were.

Trump’s executive actions on immigration go beyond what people are comfortable with, found a recent AP-NORC poll.

While many support increased security at the border, allowing the arrest of people in the country illegally at churches and schools was highly unpopular. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

Pausing health alerts from the health agencies like the CDC and FDA is reckless.

Health alerts from CDC notify health care providers of new outbreaks, critical medication shortages, etc. FDA alerts share important information about medication safety.

This is outright dangerous.
New: Trump officials have paused all external communications at health agencies like CDC, FDA, NIH.

No health alerts and the famed MMWRs; no updates to key websites or social media posts.

And no indication how long the pause will last.

Trump officials pause health agencies’ communications, citing review
The agencies are charged with making decisions that touch the lives of every American and are the source of crucial information to health-care providers.
