What’s all the rush?

The mind is quick to call us lazy, stuck, or behind when progress doesn’t show up fast enough.

But not everything moves on a deadline—and not everything should.

How many of us have been applauded for seeming calm, confident, or clever—when underneath, we were just performing the version of ourselves we thought others wanted?

Sometimes what looks like wisdom is just well-managed fear.

November.

What would feeling truly settled in your body be like?

Not because you need fixing - but because you're allowed to imagine what peace in your nervous system might feel like.

To consider what it would be like to trust your body's wisdom completely.

That moment just after waking—when the to-do list starts writing itself and you realise what you *want* from the day might not match what’s already unfolding

If your mornings often start with like this, hypnotherapy can help you shift the narrative. Let's talk—book a free 20-minute call link in bio

A tiger in a circus roars the same as one in a jungle, but which one do you believe?

The roar is identical – same power, same danger, same teeth. At the circus, you feel safe enough to enjoy the spectacle. But in the jungle, that same roar sends you running – it could be you on the menu.

Take a moment.
Feel the weight of the cup in your hand.
The cool water on your tongue.
You don’t need all the answers right now.
Just this breath. Just this sip.
Who will you become, one quiet moment at a time?

You don’t need to fix everything today.
Let’s just begin.

Sometimes it's the enormity of the blank page. What you could do feels so much bigger than what you feel able to do right now.
And when that happens, the "shoulds" pile on: "I should be creative", "I should be successful", "I should be better at this"

Sometimes we show a version of ourselves hoping it’s enough—safe, acceptable, likeable.

But later, the doubt creeps in.

Was that the truth? Was that me?
Or just a version I thought they'd prefer?

If you’re stuck performing a version of yourself that no longer fits, it might be time to check in.

Trying to control how you are perceived can make you feel more distant from the truth of who you are

how quickly the cracks show.

And maybe that’s the point. Maybe the cracks are invitations.

Are you tired of holding it all together, let’s talk.

October

A new month starts. A good time to set an intention for the month ahead.

New month, new permission. What story about yourself are you ready to question?

Not because everything needs changing - but because you're allowed to wonder if the narratives you've carried are still serving you.

This moment of strangeness captures something at the heart of cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy: letting go of automatic thoughts and behaviours, and discovering the possibility that who you are isn’t necessarily who you thought you were.

Feeling overwhelmed?
Pause.
Breathe.
List the options.
Then choose the path that aligns with your values and goals.

That’s what good problem solving looks like.

A tree can get lost in a forest, but alone in a field it's a landmark.

We spend so much energy trying to blend in, to fit the pattern, to not stand out too much. But the very things we try to soften or hide – our sensitivity, our way of seeing, the experiences that shaped us – these aren't flaws.

Shame doesn’t always scream. Sometimes it just walks beside you—quiet, familiar.

You’ve learned its voice too well. The ghost of past criticism, of opinions that said you’re less than, not enough, unworthy.

Now it presses on every step, like someone else's hand on your shoulder.

The only way to walk through a wall is to walk through a door.

We spend so much energy trying to force our way through what feels impossible. The audition that's "not for us." The conversation we can't seem to have. The creative block that won't budge. The old pattern that keeps showing up.

Sometimes even honesty can feel like a performance. We put our wounds on show, not to seek pity—but to prove we’re still standing.

If you'd like to find how hypnotherapy  can help you find the voice that's hiding underneath, book a free consultation at https://thoughtcompass.co.uk.

September.

A new month starts.

A good time to set an intention for the month ahead.

New month, new perspective.

What part of yourself are you ready to let be seen? Not because you're hiding - but because you're allowed to be curious about the parts of yourself that feel ready to emerge.

Who gets tired first, the dog or the bone?

There’s this thing that happens when we can’t let go —
a conversation that went wrong,
a dream that feels just out of reach,
an old hurt we keep worrying at, like a wound that never quite heals.

That voice of harsh judgment rarely visits when things are going well. It arrives precisely when you're already struggling

Your Inner Critic doesn't just observe difficulty; it feeds on it, magnifies it, convinces you that your failings are your identity rather than temporary states.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia — the fear of long words.

Sometimes our fears feel just as overwhelming, tangled, or ridiculous

Naming them is often the first step in loosening their grip.

Because once it’s named, we find the room for change.

What fear might you give a name to today?

There's immense pressure to have it all figured out—to see the entire staircase before taking the first step.

But what if sustainable change doesn't require a perfect five-year plan? What if it simply asks for presence with today's small choice, today's small action?
August 19, 2025 at 8:02 AM
When we're trying to change something, we quite often get stuck focusing on what we "should" be doing rather than what we "could" do instead. This is one of the biggest reasons why habit change struggles to stick.
August 18, 2025 at 8:02 AM
Perfectionism whispers that you need complete certainty before you begin. That starting before you're "ready" is risky, even irresponsible. But what if readiness is a myth—a horizon that perpetually recedes as you approach it?
August 12, 2025 at 8:01 AM
There's a particular weight to "should"—heavier than want, than need, than desire. The should-pile grows silently until it blocks the view of what you truly wish for. These shoulds arrive from every direction: childhood messages, societal expectations, professional standards, internal critics.
