I'm pretty excited to have this one out in the world as part of @goodlifelitmag.bsky.social's summer issue. Lots of rejections before this piece found its home. Thanks to my own Kirby for his inspiration. And support indie wrestling! #wrestlesky

It's quite striking how few opportunities for support -- residencies, fellowships, grants, anything -- exist for writers who are parents and don't have a spouse (or family $) shouldering the financial burden.

Amazon just announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

New story in @goodriverreview.bsky.social about one man's struggle with his (possibly) nudist neighbor and the weight of whether or not to have children.

Today we’re pleased to bring you a new story by Tom Ziemer: a story about a shaggy dog of a man, that’s not quite long enough to be a shaggy dog of a story. A little slice of life to hopefully make you smile.
Friday Morning Shearing
Ron is sitting in a chair reading the paper when I wander into his barber shop, tucked behind a thrift store that leaks the smell of old clothes into the carpeted hallway. Ron sees my sheepdog mop and wants to make it clear he’ll have to charge me extra, because otherwise people like me who only submit to a shearing every six months would take advantage of him.

"If you say one thing is another thing and you say it enough times, then it must be so, and if you keep saying it over and over people accept it as true — this is an old idea, of course, it really is nothing new, but you're watching it happen in your own time and not in a book."

Three guarantees for anytime my dad watches Field of Dreams:

1. He complains that Ray Liotta bats and throws from the opposite sides that the real Shoeless Joe did.
2. He bemoans Costner and James Earl Jones leaving the Red Sox game early.
3. He gets choked up when Costner plays catch with his dad.

For #Mainz05 fans on here, Japanese midfielder Sota Kawasaki appears to be incoming. Kyoto Sanga announced that he'll be leaving the club tomorrow to complete an overseas transfer. Seemed to come up as a 6, but he's moved further forward in the midfield and has four goals this season. #Bundesliga

Under the House GOP’s budget plan, the lowest-income taxpayers would see a LOSS of $1,125.

The richest 0.1 percent of taxpayers, on the other hand, would see a more than $180,000 GAIN.

This is trickle down economics on steroids.
