Full-globe Voyager 2 mosaic of Jupiter, courtesy of the spacecraft’s wide-angle camera. The constituent images, taken through the orange, green, blue, and sometimes violet filters, were shuttered over a four hour period in the evening of July 8, 1979. Again, the GRS and a white oval are prominent, as is a white anticyclonic feature in the equatorial zone. The shadow of Ganymede stands out near the evening terminator on the eastern side of the visible disk. Jupiter was 883,000 miles away from Voyager at 21:08 hrs UTC: the midpoint of the observation. The Ganymede composite was assembled with orange, clear and violet frames. The distance between the planet and moon has been reduced for aesthetic expediency. NASA / JPL / Ian Regan
