Advocacy for free markets is like advocacy for letting nature take its course. But Nature has produced a multitude of predators, parasites and microbial diseases. Some of the most evolutionarily successful organisms have been plagues on the human race. Many still would be if we hadn't recognized that our friends and neighbors are more valuable than the course of Nature. Now the predators, parasites and diseases of the world economy are treated like protected species while they gnaw away at the potential for broad human flourishing.
