Because, at least in theory, it’s focused on repairing the harm caused to the community rather than punishing the guilty. In the end the parties who were most directly harmed decide whether the criminal is removed or whether he must make restitution and repair the harm directly.

I mean throughout the past decade I’ve seen thousands of real versions of this tweet and it would virtually inevitably come from someone who completely abandoned the issue the minute it required voting for “not that woman.”

I can’t help but feel that there should be a logical disconnect between “Israel is committing genocide” and “Israel is like selling cookies” that should prevent people from believing both things simultaneously. Or at least stating them where people can hear you
