All the litrpg I’ve read have seemed to be saying “wouldn’t it be weird to live in a world that runs on video game logic and stats? What would it be like to live in such a world.” In the same way that Star Trek is saying “what will humanity be like when we get spaceships and meet new species?
LitRPG seems (to me) to be instead saying that, rather than making TTRPG mechanics better mechanisms for driving story development and narrative, we should instead make novels less narratively grounded and more the way old-school RPGs were designed before the rise of storytelling games. It's weird.
