Comfort food. Many of us think.of comfort food as quick & easy to prepare.

I think of comfort food as something that ties me to my grandmothers' & their neighbors' kitchens. Comfort food is simple ingredients & easy but leisurely preparation.

I'm pretty sure that works in reverse as well, because the first spring I was here, a crow brought me gifts of a wadded up piece of aluminum foil & a mangled fork.

Owner-operator Austin Jetton was a member of the traveling tour of Cats when he decided to train as a chocolatier in Paris.

I am thankful for my critters. Gremlin, Nala, & Simba are my live entertainment & my guardians as I go through cancer treatment. Simba never leaves my side. Gremlin is my alarm clock, & Nala is my heating pad. 🧡

Small Business Saturday!

This week I'm highlighting Black Cat, a cafe & bakery in Sharon Springs. Owned & operated by my dear friend Tony Daou, & home to my warrior breakfasts. *The* best eggs in Schoharie County. The cinnamon bun was so good, I ate it before the eggs came out, & I took 2 home. 1/2

Every Saturday is Small Business Saturday for me. And so, I'm going to highlight local small businesses every Saturday.

I'm starting with EH Rural Provisions. Do you see that peeling on my thumb? That's "hand & foot syndrome", a common side effect of chemotherapy. 1/

This is Edgar. He was burrowed in a friend's backyard hibernating when the Altadena fire took their home. He was found 2 blocks away a week later & taken to @pasadenahumane.org where they were reunited.

Great organization, doing incredible work. ❤️

We don't always get a white Christmas anymore, but we got a white Thanksgiving.

I'm so grateful this year to be here to celebrate it, & for all the family & friends supporting me through my cancer journey. ❤️❄️❤️

In the time between Samhain & Yule I set my intentions for the coming year. I hear Thoreau echo "simplify!" I hear my grandmother echo "thrift".

And so, a simple garter stitch scarf made of lace weight kid mohair.
