Thankful Thursday

I rang the bell today--chemo is over. My sincere thanks to friends & family near & far, my physical & online communities, & the extraordinary care team at Bassett Hem-Onc. ❤️

Yes! He was a terrific congressman & will be a terrific governor.
New York, I’m not here to play the game. I’m here to change it.

I’m running to be your next Governor.

My brother just saw a picture of Stephen Miller on the news & said, "He fucking looks like a Nazi." I said, "Makes you want to punch him, right? Or in my case, knee him in the balls." (I'm short). "Well," he said, "you could stab him in the eyes with a knitting needle."

Simplicity Sunday

Comfort food. Many of us think.of comfort food as quick & easy to prepare.

I think of comfort food as something that ties me to my grandmothers' & their neighbors' kitchens. Comfort food is simple ingredients & easy but leisurely preparation.

Warrior Wednesday

On the pump today--8 infusions down, 4 to go, & I'm feeling so much better since they changed the regimen. My blood counts are good.

Simba & I walked 1/10 of a mile yesterday. This isn't a lot, but considering that I couldn't walk 20 ft a few short weeks ago, it's huge.

Music Monday

Another anthem from my childhood.

"For What It’s Worth" wasn't written as an anti-Vietnam War song--it was written to protest anti-loitering laws in Los Angeles. But given the times, it quickly became a protest song against the war & the crackdown against civil rights demonstrators.

Fiber Friday

Fiber isn't just wool or cotton. The Inca built an empire using rope to get up & down their rugged terrain.

On a much smaller scale, I give you kitchen scrubbies to replace nasty kitchen sponges.

Warrior Wednesday

Crows can carry a grudge for 17 years & pass that grudge to their offspring.

I'm pretty sure that works in reverse as well, because the first spring I was here, a crow brought me gifts of a wadded up piece of aluminum foil & a mangled fork.

As I doomscroll this morning, I come across this from my old stomping grounds in the lower Hudson Valley. 102 years old & she showed up.

Lawler, meanwhile, was too chicken to show up & face his constituents.
At the Mike Lawler empty chair town hall in Peekskill, 102 year old Dee in danger of losing her Medicaid, heard FDR on the radio in 1935 when he created Social Security. @indivisible.org

Small Business Saturday

The sweetest shop in Sharon Springs--Austintacious, purveyor of small batch chocolate truffles made by hand.

Owner-operator Austin Jetton was a member of the traveling tour of Cats when he decided to train as a chocolatier in Paris.

Fiber Friday

Aran knitting is my favorite to work. This sweater was designed by me & worked in the round using yarn from Sap Bush Hollow Farm in West Fulton, Schoharie County.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my critters. Gremlin, Nala, & Simba are my live entertainment & my guardians as I go through cancer treatment. Simba never leaves my side. Gremlin is my alarm clock, & Nala is my heating pad. 🧡

Warrior Wednesday

This week, I'm encouraging you to be a warrior for your own health. And I do this from painful experience.

I had 2 negative Cologuards. Although I was symptomatic, my PCP did not recommend a colonoscopy & would not refer me for one. I respected her expertise & did not fight.

Small Business Saturday!

This week I'm highlighting Black Cat, a cafe & bakery in Sharon Springs. Owned & operated by my dear friend Tony Daou, & home to my warrior breakfasts. *The* best eggs in Schoharie County. The cinnamon bun was so good, I ate it before the eggs came out, & I took 2 home. 1/2

Every Saturday is Small Business Saturday for me. And so, I'm going to highlight local small businesses every Saturday.

I'm starting with EH Rural Provisions. Do you see that peeling on my thumb? That's "hand & foot syndrome", a common side effect of chemotherapy. 1/

FFS creators on bsky. Please read posts before you respond. I've been inundated with creators today offering to make a digital painting of a crow for me.

All I wanted was a snapshot of a crow for the artist I ALREADY COMMISSIONED to work from.

It's an oy vey kinda day.

Let's try again.

I need *photos* of crows. Don't have to be fancy or art.

I have the artist who hand paints in oils. She is local to me. 🖤

I need pictures of crows.

I'm supporting a local artist today with a commission for a painting of my spirit animal. When she asked for a photo to work from, I found I had none. I don't take pictures of them, I just talk to them & give thanks for the sparkles they bring me. 🖤

"Simplify. Simplify," said Thoreau in 1854.

Long past time to heed that call.
The Epoch of Cheap Nature is over.

Food prices will never go back down. We need to get used to paying the real prices of food, water and materials.

Let the useless, wasteful industries of junk fail, and the great simplification begin.

This was my congressman for 2 years when we were in NY19, which was 70% white & the 8th most rural district in the country. He won because he went out & listened to us.

We need more Democrats like him.
"And so the question becomes, who among us — on the inside — is going to actually start speaking truth, connect with people in a real way, and give voice [to the people]?"
