This is bloody everywhere and I didn’t make any nasty comments about Roger when I got fired. . I think it’s about the public comments about Roger on my Instagram - which I have taken down . And I didn’t think Roger was having a go at me on stage because he was shouting into a special microphone that he only uses to communicate with the sound guy. There was no conflict and no argument before the show or after as I was in my car on my way home before Pete and Roger had finished the last song ‘Tea and Theatre’ which is an acoustic duet and doesn’t feature any of the band .. I thought the gig was ok . I had no idea about getting fired or any problems at all until a week after the show. So either the times misunderstood or…confusion reigns O’er me and everyone else ! I thought this had blown over . The who has a new drummer they’ve played some shows they’re about to do their farewell tour… so this is old news and it’s completely wrong. When I first saw it I was gonna leave it but now it’s been picked up by every outlet in the cosmos it’s a bit annoying cos it’s bollox .. I love Roger and he’s a fucking amazing singer - we go back too long for grudges

60 Years Ago today: Manager Kit Lambert says The Who are leaving "Maximum R&B" behind: "The Who are having serious doubts about the state of R&B. Now the LP material will consist of hard pop. They've finished with 'Smokestack Lightnin'!"
Who make drastic policy changes. Re-recording holds up first LP: THE WHO have delayed the release of their first LP due to a last-minute musical policy change. This drastic move has resulted in the group re-recording nearly all of the LP tracks. The record was to have been released in the US four weeks ago but was cancelled. Says Who manager Kit Lambert: "The Who are having serious doubts about the state of R&B. Now the LP material will consist of hard pop. They've finished with 'Smokestack Lightnin'!" The main contents of the album will now be originals written by guitarist Pete Townshend, and singer Roger Daltrey. The LP should be released in early September.

Bill Curbishley, who looked after the Who, Roger Daltrey, Judas Priest, UB40 and Led Zep. Bill Curbishley is one the last of the great rock band mangers still with us. He is part of a select group of larger-than-life characters ֊ that includes Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin), Steve O'Rourke (Pink Floyd), Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols), Allen Klein (the Beatles, the Rolling Stones), Rob Gretton (Joy Division and New Order) - who were nearly as famous as their charges. Curbishley will reveal all about the rock scene from the '70s to the '90s, and what it wfas like managing the Who and Led Zep. About the author: Curbishley is older brother of ex-West Ham United and Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, and grew up in West Ham. He started his career in the music business in 1971, managing tours for the Who and other artists such as Thunderclap Newman, Golden Earring and the Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Curbishley produced the Who's film Tommy and the prison movie Me Vicar, both starring Roger Daltrey. Curbishley’s company acquired management of the Who in 1976 and soon expanded to manage other well-known artists such as Judas Priest and Robert Plant. In 1994, Curbishley assumed management of guitarist Jimmy Page, and in the same year, was integral in the reuniting of Page and Plant, both former members of Led Zeppelin.

A Very Frank Question-Time with the Yardbirds conducted by Keith Altham. Q. How far do you think we can go before the machine takes over from the musician. For example, haven't the Who gone too far with electronic sounds rather than music? Keith Relf: The Who are creating with sounds just as surely as an artist with brush strokes. What is more important they are original. I've just been listening to a symphony on the third programme where they tried effects from stell sheets, slabs of marble and 15 speakers. It was wonderful. I also believe that the Who have been inspired by us. We were always seeing them in our audience at one time either at the Marquee or the Crawdaddy. Jim McCarthy: The Who and ourselves are the only groups doing anything new. I think that's far better than reviving these old numbers like Peter and Gordon have. We all dislike that type of song. Paul Samwell-Smith: I would say that Bacharach's experiments with melody have been more successful that the Who's with sound. Jeff Beck: I was experimenting with echo effects and feedback years ago. Now it's become the thing. The Who's effects are drawing the crowds. I think they incorporate their own sound with some of the Beach Boys' style, and they are very good.
