Labor to implement new telecommunication rules in response to Optus outage
The federal government is expected to introduce new telecommunications rules next month in response to the recent Optus outage. Telcos will soon be required to provide real-time updates of triple-zero outages, including the scale of the network failure. Labor reportedly sat for nearly a year on a plan to implement a national triple-zero watchdog.

@jennywiggins.bsky.social Should Optus be blaming a staff member for the 000 outage? I would look closely at their monitoring systems. Why was monitoring and alerts not setup to detect any 000 failures after the previous 000 outage? Also interesting to compare how hyperscalers handle these issues.
