Positive news for #Cambodia with the Smithsonian’s Asian Art Museum in Washington DC announcing the return of 3 Khmer artworks to Cambodia, and San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum doing the same for 13 pieces. Once looted but now coming home.

Prasat Ta Krabey, an 11/12th century temple, has been shelled and virtually demolished by Thailand’s military attacks over the past 2 days, as hostilities between Cambodia and Thailand ramp up. Targeting cultural property is heinous.

The torch is still alight inside the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh this evening, after yesterday’s anniversary of #Cambodia’s Independence Day from France, dating back to 9 Nov 1953. It was lit by the king yesterday and will be extinguished tomorrow.

This 7th century sandstone linga was found buried in 2017 as Prasat Baset in Battambang, #Cambodia was undergoing renovation. Now at the Battambang Museum, surrounded by other artifacts from the same temple.
