True, but if the chancellor or vc is so inclined, the legality of the transaction could be addressed in a ruling on the books and records request, or on the dismissal ruling in a subsequent derivative action.

The Carter v Carter Coal(1936) strategy: challenge the legality of government acts in a derivative case where the government can't defend itself because it isn't a party.

When we were 10, my cousin took a full Tiger Woods-style swing on the miniature golf course, hitting me above the eye on the follow through, requiring several stitches.

This not very smart accountant notes that donations to food aid orgs are generally tax deductible, and campaign contributions are not, so Kat's project is an extremely inefficient use of your mone.

Not true. You can pay off your mortgage whenever you have sufficient funds. With a 50 year mortgage, you may get there sooner, since you’re paying less each month along the way.

Not sure what your point is, but agree that there isn't much evidence that Graham Platner is Zohran Mamdani.

When a state brings criminal charges against a federal employee for on the job acts, the defendant can remove the trial to federal court. At least during trial they are in federal custody, suggesting that they can be pardoned by the president.

If you like fast-moving plots and an excellent villain (AKA God) the best books are Genesis, Exodus, skip the next 3, pick up with Joshua through Esther, where God finally gives up. Skip the rest except Job (asshole God returns!), Song of Songs for gratuitous sex, Daniel for weird, and Jonah.

Your math confused me until I realized that Bob Cratchit got a 25% raise a few years later, when England adapted the 52 week year.

NewARK (Delaware), often mispronounced as NEWark (New Jersey), although neither is much of a tourist destination.

Kind of a roundabout method of proving that August 31 was the middle day of a three day weekend, May 31 was a Saturday, and more people are on vacation in June and July, but you've proved it.

Growing up, "Don Quixote" was the title of a volume of my parents' bookshelves, visible but never said out loud. "Donkey Hotey" was the donkey puppet on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. When a college lecturer pronounced the first as the second, I had no idea what he was talking about.

Save on Uber. Hadddonfield and Stratford CVS's are short walks from PATCO train stops.

Also, don't forget to stock up on lower-cost liquor here in the Garden State!

Yes. Substitution of non-tariff competing products will reduce the actual taxes paid. The effect will be small at first and will increase as the supply chain adjusts and more products are manufactured in the U.S. We don't have any data on this yet.
August 22, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Or you could say that increasing effective tariff rate from 2% to 18.2% is an increase of federal tariff "taxes on American businesses and consumers" of 910%.

Either way, it isn't an increase of 18.2%.
August 21, 2025 at 6:44 PM
No. Tariffs raised $77 billion and total federal tax revenue was $4.92 trillion in FY2024. Additional revenue from raising the rate to 18.2% would be a tax increase of about $625 billion, which would raise total federal "taxes on American businesses and consumers" by 12.7%.
