“aside from the Xbone Xbox make great consoles with best in class functionality” is a funny one as well considering the 360 was so poorly manufactured over 50% of them experienced a catastrophic failure and the S (despite what fans say) massively harmed them this time around too.

The parasocial element definitely plays a role. People feel like their friend is asking for help and then they see them spending the money on something they deem frivolous but the reality is closer to you paying for a service and the person spending their wages

It’s one of those weird games that’s been (quietly) a big influence on people making cool and interesting stuff now despite the fact it’s not good. I feel like that’s primarily why I’m drawn to it even though I know how bad it is

It took John Wick and Keanu Reeves (the only western action star capable of standing alongside the incredible actors in Asian action cinema imo) to reset what the Rock had made action movies. Well that and the fact that his big superhero tent pole bombed

The Rock and his movies did away with this. He’s immune to harm, he’s immune to peril and I don’t believe a single character he’s played is even capable of feeling pain. That sucks but he also set a precedent that other stars of his calibre tried to emulate

John Wick did a lot of things right but it’s big success was understanding that Wick, as unstoppable as he is, needs to get hurt, he needs to stumble otherwise it’s boring and he’s unrelatable

The best action stars are humble and crucially just people. When I see Jackie Chan do some incredible stunt I feel it both the physicality and the peril. I know John McClane will win but he takes a beating doing it. The rock is neither humble or just a regular person

They might have. Most movies get this. I’ll be fair, visually it absolutely nails it and there’s a lot I love about it too.
And yeah, I don’t think those teens walked out because they detected an incoherence in the plot and the themes of the movie and it’s predecessor

The Rock is lucky the MCU was there to act as flack for the “this is killing cinema” accusations because there’s a very strong argument to be made that he played a major role in wrecking western action movies

I think the plot is that movies weakest element and it’s thematically confused but the visuals and atmosphere more than make up for it
