I’m just here for a quiet evening scroll. Aquatic biologist, aquatic science education, fisheries policy, now teaching HS and MS biology.

Kauai, HI
This cool dude paid me a visit while doing the dishes. It’s some species of Anaxipha cricket I believe. Sent me down a fun rabbit hole reading this absolutely delightful paper on the genus. I love it when an authors enthusiasm is so apparent. 🐜🧪

Completely unrelated but has anyone ever been able to explain the unusually high number of German restaurants in Huntsville Alabama?

Is it too late for #molluscmonday? Found these two love birds (African giant snails Achatina fulica) in the throes of passion this morning. There's a reason they are so invasive! We relocated them to the field across the street where they can get freaky and munch on other invasive plants all day.

Took my students hiking on Friday. I asked the speedy boys to not get too far ahead of the rest of the group.

5 minutes later…

A beautiful auku’u (black crown night heron) visited our stream today despite the crazy winds. He caught at least 3 little tilapia. Hoping he’ll be a more regular visitor

Wouldn’t point iii essentially outlaw anyone but an actual nurse giving a kid a bandaid or performing first aid?

I have a kid in my class who is one of the boys and I’m glad he’s at a school where we don’t receive fed funds.

Trying to get a non-blurry photo of my son at this age is like stalking a rare and secretive bird. You have to camp out in a blind waiting for the 1 millisecond where he stops wiggling

The sky has been amazing this month. Just unreal sunsets everyday. (Not pictured me and my cousin sweating our asses off moving a bunch of heavy furniture out of my other cousin’s house)

People who don’t like thanksgiving just don’t have good cooks in the family

Reclaiming some chicken coop space for a place to store the trailer and extra building materials. Just gonna do a tarp canopy for now, but eventually I’d like to have a small barn here.

Went to Big Island last weekend and just happened to catch the Hokulea on its last day at Keauhou. Looks like they are not updating the tracker on the website anymore, I wonder where they are sailing next.
