Honestly I don’t think the main character, technically speaking, has a heart. She’s an amorphous blob monster who shoves metal & other people’s bones inside herself to make a body. It’s a love story!

Have you read Someone You Can Build a Nest In? Surprisingly heartwarming eldritch body horror.

For me, weird storytelling decisions are a time honored part of Trek, but if the ethos is there, I’m down to watch a bunch of earnest weirdos get up to space hijinks.

Ok, so don’t watch it then? Not liking something is fine, it doesn’t doesn’t mean it’s trash & or that the people who enjoy it aren’t real fans. Personally I’m enjoying the theme that in an imperfect world, the values of the Star Trek future are worth fighting for, but take work to build & maintain.

Other series have had confusing references to money & this one makes way more sense given that it’s set in a different time period where they’re rebuilding after the collapse of federation & earth having had a real back slide.

A mogwai is for life, not just for Christmas!

Aww, this is how I learned the building on the corner is no longer a hilariously incongruous mobile phone shop.

Usually I relate deeply to Tilly’s ways, but celery is a garbage vegetable.

On a call with my mom once: Oh, [Cousin]’s experimental brain surgery went great!
Me: Her what!?
(This was mid general catch up & not the point of the call)

I tragically knocked a half full box of Maldon off the counter recently and scattered most of it across the floor.

I ended up doing a 2nd journey with my friend once we reunited because I wanted to keep going. Now to figure out how to display it (may do some extra embellishment around the margins first).

I was thinking more the combo of all three, but given the age of everything there, I suppose non-posh schools in beautiful historic buildings aren’t that rare. The robes feel very Oxbridge for children though (and that one school with old timey uniforms that goes around the internet occasionally).

Me as a kid: How creative, a school in an ancient building with a competitive house system & everyone wears robes!
Me after living in England: This is just posh people!? You just added a hat that decides if kids are evil!

Oh wow, her face is very Rich in pic two, then shifts into you in pic three (she has your incredulous eyebrows)!

I wish the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane had been bigger, the magic is way more interesting & the point of being a wizard is to fight against entropy, because making things better is meaningful even though the eventual heat death of the universe is inevitable

Kinda surprised they got so big over there in the 1st place as a lot of what I did think was cool world building turned out to just be actual British things.
