My AP Lit kids are working on posters, and I asked if they wanted to listen to music. They asked for Billy Joel. There's nothing sweeter than listening to a class of 17-year-olds singing along full-voiced to "Piano Man" on a Friday afternoon.

One of my favorite things about teaching Literature Through Film is showing the kids great films they haven't seen - for example the film we're watching today, The Dark Knight - and then seeing the expressions on their faces during exciting parts of movies. 😲

Imagine opposing diversity. If you can’t, you have perspective and empathy. Your mindset doesn’t match the opposition, which is rooted in narcissism and a lack of true understanding. Rationalizing with that is futile. Our best hope is becoming activated and outspoken and forming alliances.
