Cheese scones made. Some (2/3)to take into the office tomorrow for the food thing we do each Christmas where we make or buy something to share.

The rest (1/3) will be for eating at home.

Decided to make something savoury as a lot of the other things people will bring will be cake or sweets

I know this was on here a few days ago about the US planning to ask tourists to supply 5 years of social media usage, well that's not all they want

It's email addresses, phone numbers, birthdates/locations for your whole family, even your fingerprints & DNA.

Decorations now up for Christmas.

It’s kind of odd putting them up really as none of us in the house are religious at all, so we won’t be attending church or anything like that.

It’s just having the greenery and lights on dark evening makes it brighter.

I unplugged the kobo from the laptop, went into the settings/dictionary and made sure the dictionaries where showing as ticked.

I then tried using it with a book on Kobo (epub file) and it now works

It did stick a bit when trying to highlight 2 characters, but it did get there in the end

This is where I copy/pasted the whole zip file (dicthtml-zh-en (1) after it downloaded it.

I plugged kobo into laptop and opened the kobo folder custon-dict and dict pasted it to both places.

Lights in the fountain outside city hall this morning while I was on my way to work. It was 8.45 or so, but with sunrise having been less than half an hour ago the light was still a kind of murky blue.

We've reached the earliest sunset time here of 3.45pm which sticks for about a week, before slowly getting later. By New Years Eve it's 3.55pm

The times here are a bit earlier than in the link weather.gov as that's Illinois at 40°N, the bit of the UK I'm in is 53°47'N.

8am this morning and it’s still pretty dark out. Sunrise is at about 8.15.

Looking forward to when we get lighter mornings again. Although there’s still nearly 2 weeks before the shortest day.

I’ve said it before, but I wish I had a bigger kitchen. I don’t even mean a kitchen big enough for a centre island. Or even a breakfast bar type thing.

Just a kitchen that isn’t 2m by 3.2m (abt 6.5ft by 11ft) so I have actual worktop space and more than 4 cupboards

Photo is like 75-80% of kitchen

Over 40 (46), no filter, no make up. Just me on a Sunday evening, scrolling Bluesky and waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can hang stuff up to dry.

First snow of the autumn. It’s not supposed to last long, just a day or two, as it’ll rain at the weekend.

I’ve finally got that other bag of gravel, as well as soil for the raised planters.

All the soil is now into the planters and the shrubs out of their pots and into the soil.

On with the last bit of gravel tomorrow.

Final stop, less than half an hour from home. Sitting by Royds Hall Dam with the sun starting to get low, finishing the last of my coffee.

Not a bad spot to stop for a cup of coffee from the flask I’ve brought with me and a couple of biscuits (chocolate ginger). Then it will on through the last sections of woods.

Out for a walk along the Tinker trail down to the Judy Woods, enjoying the autumn sunshine before the weather turns tomorrow and we put the clocks back to GMT.

The skip is here. (And so is the rain) I’m thinking i should probably have ordered a bit bigger one, not 100% certain everything that needs to go will fit in. But in guess any additional plant waste can go in the monthly garden bin collection.
October 3, 2025 at 10:55 AM
That’s a good chunk of it cleared - so many bags of brambles. Now to see how much of it is going to fit in the skip tomorrow.

Going to try to get most of it done tomorrow as soon as the skip is here. The weather for Saturday looks awful - high winds and rain - so no gardening that day.

Honestly don’t know where all the time goes. This is the cake I made today for my son’s 16th birthday.
It seems no time at all ago that it just three or four candles to go on the cake.
