Tempest: "Dad, can I borrow the Triumph? I'll be careful, I promise. I'm just really tired of that squirrel outrunning me."

I returned the 2026 BMW R 1300 RT to the mother ship yesterday after putting just over 2,000 miles on it in October. In case you missed my review: www.revzilla.com/common-tread...

The KLX300SM feels like just the right motorcycle for the short ride to the summit on the narrow, tightly winding road. This section is one of the more open parts of the road. Anything more than the little supermoto feels too big.

Today was my last chance to ride to the top of Mount Greylock before the road closes for the season.

Gratuitous #autumn photo. The steeples of Williamstown, Massachusetts, with Pine Cobble in the background.

A little rain added even more colors to an #autumn day in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Peak #fall colors are here.

Last ride of the year for the 1997 Triumph Speed Triple, mainly to run some fuel stabilizer through it. Due to seniority (and a dodgy thermostat) it has earned time off during winter, while younger motorcycles get the harsh duty. Off to its nap now.

Lately I've been riding two very different motorcycles back to back. Just as pro roadracers cross-train on MX or flat-track bikes, it's instructive for us normal motorcyclists to try something totally different now and then. And it's fun. Read more here: theridesofar.com/2025/10/moto...

The neighbors were curious about someone walking by on the seldom-used trail on a beautiful autumn day. 🍁

Another big turnout this year for the Vintage Motorcycle Festival at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park. I will post a photo gallery at Common Tread in the coming week.

What a disaster for Bobby Fong in MotoAmerica Superbike race two of three. Could have finished third and gone into the final race with a big advantage, but crashed on the last lap. Still one race to go in New Jersey to decide it among the top three. MotoAmerica #motorcycle racing.

Two orange bikes on the podium for Saturday's King of the Baggers race as RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines H-D riders Hayden Gillim and Rocco Landers finish first and third. Let's see what happens today. And who will win the Superbike title.

For my 1,000th post on Bluesky, how about a gratuitous cat photo? Haven't done one of those in a while. Here's Tempest working on her tan lines. Cats know how to relax.

Riding two of the best middleweight adventure-touring motorcycles shows why these are among the most versatile rides on two wheels. And it also reveals some subtle but key differences. #motorcyce review; #motosky theridesofar.com/2025/08/tuar...

On a recent, beautiful, 80-degree day with no chance of rain, this is the motorcycle-only parking at the American Motorcyclist Association. Not one employee chose to ride a #motorcycle to work under ideal conditions. Wonder why the AMA is out of touch with riders?

One candidate for hardest working MotoAmerica rider is Hayden Gillim, who qualified eighth in Superbike, peeled off his sweaty Honda leathers, had a few minutes to catch his breath, then pulled on his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines gear and captured pole position in King of the Baggers. #motorcycle

What year is it?! I'm at Mid-Ohio for the MotoAmerica round and some local named Larry Pegram (below) went out on a Team Hammer Suzuki and qualified eighth in Supersport. If that's not confusing enough, Jeremy McWilliams (age 60+!) is racing Supersport AND Super Hooligans. #motorcycle #motosky

Weekend #motorcycle reading from the archives: The stats and the anecdotal information match up. The average age of motorcyclists in the United States is getting up there. Here are some numbers that tell the tale. #motosky theridesofar.com/2023/12/moto...

There's an unusually high per capita concentration of art museums in the area where I now live ( small towns, multiple museums), so at any time you're more likely to see something whimsical in an otherwise ordinary duck pond.

Anybody want to play odometer poker? Yes, that's a seven-digit straight as my old Speed Triple reached another interesting number yesterday. (And yes, that's a homemade 1 on the left, added long ago for the sake of accuracy.)
