Neo-noir horror? Horny serial killers? Egregious AI?

All that and more as I join Jarrod & Steve to dive into Charles Band's VR nightmare-meets-Jack the Ripper thriller QUADRANT (2024) on the latest episode of the Puppet Masters/Castle Freaks podcast!

And in international horror, not enough people have discovered the terrifying SATAN'S SLAVES 2: COMMUNION, Joko Anwar's sequel to his 2017 equally masterful SATAN'S SLAVES.

Man, that %$*!@ elevator sequence... 🫣

Rewatching THE WIRE and I’m once again shattered at the loss of Michael K Williams, who is just stunning in every single scene.

Yes to all of this + anyone who's a fan of CARNIVAL, Lynch, Romero, and Bergman and hasn't yet seen MESSIAH OF EVIL would be wise to bump it to the top of their list.

@jennwexler.bsky.social and I were lucky enough to be handed a copy of SCREAMING & CONJURING by author @clarkcollis.bsky.social himself!

But don’t be too jealous — pick up your own copy of this essential and entertaining look at the last 3 decades of horror movies, in bookstores today!

Have you seen the original British miniseries starring Michael Gambon? It’s been forever since I’ve seen either, but I remember it as the far better version, if you can handle standard def TV visuals.

Sure she's looking rough now, but try to remember Aunt G. in her heyday!

I enjoy reading Richard Brody's film criticism in the New Yorker but I have no idea what he's getting on about here.

Horror is, by nature, rooted in the unexpected and the transgressive. It can be sad, shocking, exciting, funny, tragic, romantic and, yes, scary too. Formulaic? Not the good stuff.

Park Slope did great! Mamdani won but Lander was a pretty strong second, in part because he was a city council member for the area prior to becoming Comptroller.

Per NYT, only 13% of the first-choice votes went to Cuomo, which is less than Sunset Park (24%) or Fort Greene (17%).

Very good movie but a very wrong choice for the person I invited out that night.

🙋 I remember!

I loved all three Shadow Hearts games and even sort of liked the not-as-great Koudelka, too.

My big two "am I the only one" games are Vagrant Story (PS1) and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (PS2).

Forget the AI-fabricated Chicago Sun Times' summer book slop.

The real ones know Stanislaw Lem's A PERFECT VACUUM is the only collection of reviews for imaginary, non-existent books worth reading.
