Excited to share this JACI-IP paper that I co-authored with mental health colleagues as part of a @aaaaiorg.bsky.social collaboration!

We hope that this information encourages allergy clinics and practices to collaborate with licensed mental health practitioners. (Link below in the comments).

Parents often self-blame when their child has a medical condition. Two tips to help back out of self-blame are:

🧠 Drop the struggle: "Debating this won't help me feel better, so I'm going to focus on things that matter right now instead."

🧠 Focus on positives: “How have I made positive impacts?”

It's easy to develop an unhelpful relationship with anxiety - one where we believe whatever it tells us and make decisions based on worry.

So, does that mean we should never let anxious thoughts impact our decision-making?

No. But we don't want to let these thoughts guide us through life either.

The latest news about the reduction of peanut allergies in babies due to the change in guidelines over recent years is wonderful news being celebrated within the #foodallergy community, of course!

But what if you find yourself feeling conflicted about this news, too?

It’s truly okay! ❤️

When our child receives a #foodallergy diagnosis, we of course want to know WHY.

This article explores how, in the face of fear & uncertainty, sometimes our mind makes unhelpful connections which leads us to feel unwarranted guilt about the diagnosis.

When it comes to managing #foodallergy #anxiety, we can break it down into 3 basic steps:

1. Exploring and understanding it.
2. Engaging in actions to address it.
3. Using coping skills to help manage it.

FA anxiety isn’t always easy to manage, but simplifying it helps!

Don't forget that even the days, weeks, and months that feel hard to get through can still contain joy.

Find moments to notice and appreciate the simple things....a smile, a laugh, a sunny day.

Remind yourself that feeling pain and struggle is part of the human experience, but so is feeling joy.
