I'll admit I'm not sure of a solution - obviously the current approach is the wrong one but we've yet to see a government try to make a strong case for migration, explain the numbers properly, and differentiate between types of migration. We don't know if it'd work or not but someone needs to try.

The elephant in the room here is the way people blend conversations about legal migration/asylum seekers/illegal migration. It's why falling numbers aren't satisfying the public but also why targeting legal migrants (which I'm aware this week's policies aren't aimed at) hasn't made them happy either
