I think a lot of prequels stumble too because the stakes aren't there. Obi-Wan Kenobi was never going to die or lose a limb or an eye in the prequel movies or shows, no matter how dire the straits he was in. Vito Corleone was always going to make it through the prequel part of the Godfather II.

I worked at a resale store for years, and volunteer at my local library sometimes, you pick up trends, and it's kind of depressing how many people just read what everyone else reads, or only whatever's on the NYT list, or only 1-to-3 authors and nothing else.
