This is on point.
It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.

Trump just turned Venezuela into a proving ground for autocratic power. Just as Russia is doing with Ukraine, and China wants to do with Taiwan. We pretend there is a line he will not cross. Institutions are only as strong as our willingness to defend them.

Trump’s role in January 6 is not a footnote. It is a case study in how damaged leaders test the guardrails of a republic and how citizens either rise to meet the moment or look away.

I saw an elderly woman today say the best thing to do in these times is be kind. I liked that, it undercut my bitter contemptuousness a tad. I thought, we can all do with some random acts of kindness.

Not a solution, but helpful and affirming maybe.

Me thinks a little too hasty. The change is still happening.
“This time last year, leaders like [Sam] Altman were making it sound like we’d raced over a technological cliff, and that we were tumbling chaotically toward an automated workforce. Such breathlessness now seems rash,” Cal Newport writes. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/k2Fp3C

This was supposed to be the year when autonomous agents took over everyday tasks. The tech industry overpromised and underdelivered.

This is profoundly un-American.

No—that's not right.

It's *anti*-American.

It's hatred of the United States and its founding documents and all its people and all its traditions.

The person who wrote and approved this is a weirdo who detests everything that America stands for.

This is the kind of thing that makes people give up on democracy. Because govt has been way too soft on the wealthy and corporate raiders. Not rocket science.
After buying it for $18.8 billion, Walgreens' new private equity owner has eliminated paid holidays for all hourly workers on Christmas and New Year's.

Last year, Walgreens had a CEO-to-Worker pay gap of 410 to 1.

Corporate greed that would make even Scrooge blush.

When you've been appointed to a position you really should not be in.
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."
