Pancake tortoise specimen collected in 1928 in preparation for taking tissue samples for DNA research aimed at supporting efforts to protect and conserve this endangered species in the wild.

Rescuing taxidermy! Modern taxidermy is very tasty to insects such as clothes moths and we are having to deal with increasingly regular outbreaks affecting our exhibition specimens. After freezing we remove the damage and carry out conservation before returning to display.
