Addendum: I posted this before looking at facebook! My timeline is full of lament and mourning for the good christian CK… by boomers and young folks alike. He was everywhere, or at least his influence in death is everywhere around white evangelicals. Wow, I am at a loss. Makes me want to run away.

All I can pray is, God help me, I don’t have the answers.

God who is good and loving, who rejects power to be human in our suffering, who rejects Empire’s injustice, who does not love empty prayers… may my prayers not be empty but whole in actionable love. 8/8

I’m just so at a loss for how to communicate the Gospel with people who saw CK as a “good warrior of the gospel and advancing the Kingdom.” The Gospel of Peace I have been given doesn’t get advanced by warriors like theirs. It gets advanced through loving servants and prophets against Empire. 7/

How do I formulate that huge & complex thought into something that I could then have a conversation with an evangelical who hasn’t really been challenged by society or church with the Gospel in an Anabaptist peacemaking lens. To them Jesus is Lord, but they don’t see that as repudiating Cesar. 6/

What I am trying to formulate is how to express that (from my understanding of CK’s beliefs, because i was not in tune with him, on purpose) my way of following Jesus and reading the Gospel is to turn away from everything people in big MAGA media/politics see Jesus as. 5/

I am reeling from this. The folks on my insta provoking this are salt of the earth folks from small town kansas that I grew up with. I would expect these folks to post about “hating violence” and “thoughts and prayers”, but not overt praise for his good Christian life. 4/

seemingly racist, promoting violent systems and the 2nd amendment, so and so forth. All regular alt right conservative Christian Nationalistic media figure stuff. But then to find out people didn’t just view him as a means to an end like Trump, but they loved him & thought he was a good xian… 3/

Many posted CK’s easter tweet about Jesus dying so we can live. His young audience mourning his death not just as a political commentator but as a good xian came as a surprise. And i’m reeling at how to respond or communicate. My interactions with CK have been through viral clips of him being 2/
