There's always something new to learn
While Dragons may still show signs of growing and aging, they are known to love naturally for hundreds or thousands of years. They could sire many Dragonborn in that time, but very few will ascend to become Dragons in their own right. (9/9) Thanks for reading!! #Dragonweek #Monsterweek

Upon emerging from this Draconic Chrysalis or "Pupa" stage the "Adult" form, or Ture Dragon, will be a powerful neigh-Immortal being. (8/9)

The natural, but exceedinly rare, next step for Dragonborn is to create a "Pupa" or Draconic Chryalis. The process is highly mysterious, but we know it is arduous; consuming a lot of time and resources. (7/9)

Once born to a mortal parent, these "Dragon Eggs" enter the "Larval" or Mortal stage of their lifecycle. These are commonly called "Dragonborn". These Dragonborn have a seemingly random assortment of draconic and mortal traits. (6/9)

Instead, these Shape-shifters entrust their Dragonic offspring to Mortal mothers. This is roughly analogous to the egg stage of Insects. (5/9)

Due to the near constant shifting of a Dragon's internal structure, there are no recorded cases of a True Dragon giving birth or laying eggs. (4/9)

Differing from other depictions, a Dragon's life cycle has distinct Mortal and Immortal stages. There also seems to be some coincidental reflection on the life cycles of Insects, going through distinct "Larva", "Pupa", and "Adult" Stages. (3/9)

First note is I intend for this new Draconic Cycle to be 5e compatible, but not D&D canon. I've devided them into 9 Sections with subsections for more detail. (2/9)

Okay one more fun concept, because a wand-based magic System lends itself well to other magic items.

If the wand is the spell, can you make the wand small and wearable? Magic Jewelery made of wands? Or have it be the handle on something else? Magic daggers and hammers?

It was initially a crown, the simplest way to adorn oneself with additional Wands. They sat on a band around the head and would be bound together to their point.

To some this was extra storage, but most used it as status. "Look at the Wands I don't need." "Gaze upon the Wands of those I defeated!"

And I'm not ready to teach myself chemistry to create a magic System...

...not yet anyway.
February 21, 2025 at 12:12 AM
What I mean is, how in specific and in the weeds to I want to get with the components of these Wands?

That starts blurring the line between Wizardry and Alchemy which is basically Chemistry.

The concept of assigning magical features to elements is simultaneously endlessly fascinating and deplorably dull. I'm not sure how exact or vague I want to be about this yet...

I guess this idea involves more world building than actual magic explanation so far but it's a really fun concept that I think about a lot.

Last image I'm holding onto for now: A political "Arch-Mage" position that wields a giant staff with dozens of Wands attached. And only someone who has proven themselves able to cast Magic from each wand can use the staff and hold the title.

Those who aren't allowed Magic might hide their Wands in objects of daily life, like farming tools or instruments, which can be nabbed for emergency use.

Actually it would also be fun if some have learned to make magical music by combining their Wands with their instruments.
February 16, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Soldiers from magically-proficenet communities might cary one or two Wands as a kind of emergency backup to traditional weaponry.
February 16, 2025 at 10:51 PM
Each wand would take weeks or months to craft and master, making the number of Wands that a Wizard has on their person a mark of honor and experience.

Other spellcasters may specialize in only certain spells or varietys of magic, and only carry one or two Wands used in daily life.

Expirinced Spellcasters would be instantly recognizable because they are adonred in numerous wands. These could be worn on belts or necklaces or attached to various robes, but each has to have their position and purpose memorized.
