Concept: A Magic System where the composition of the wand is the most important component of the spell, so spellcasters need a different wand for each kind of spell they're casting.

What's the relationship between Sphinxes and Manticores?
Are they heavily derived version of the same human-faced, lion-bodied concept? Or did they independently converge on the same unholy body plan?
