One more example: the ability for instance admins to easily change the maximum post length. After cassolotl suggested this in 2017, it was quickly implemented by lambadalamda and integrated into glitch-soc. But Rochko refused to support it in vanilla Mastodon: "I feel like the UX is designed, visually and behaviourally, around a certain number of characters, and deviations have a negative impact on it." Since then, similar changes been proposed — and rejected — repeatedly: in 2018, 2010, 2022, 2023, and quite possibly others I missed in my quick search of Mastodon issues. So on instances where people want more than 500 characters, instance admins whose pet issue is trying to give people what they want are out of luck — unless they've got the skills, time, energy, and desire to install the Mastodon server software, change the code, reapply the changes every time there's a new release, sysadmin the Linux machine and database, and learn about Sidekiq queues.

@fediforum I've updated https://privacy.thenexus.today/not-just-fediforum/ to include a brief discussion of the second listening session. Is this snippet accurate? And, do you have a timeframe for the notes?
Update, April 24: FediForum had a second "listening session" a few days ago (once again, just for people who had registered to attend this year's conference). The remaining organizer also mentioned that there's a lot of desire from the people he's been talking with to have the next FediForum as soon as possible, although also acknowledged that meant they wouldn't be able to make many changes before then other than getting an advisory board in place.

How to assemble your pocket booklet: 1. Print the information sheet. 2. Fold in half shortwise. 3. Fold back one edge to the middle fold. 4. Fold back the other edge to the middle fold. 5. After unfolding the sheet, fold longwise. 6. Refold shortwise, then use scissors to cut along the dotted line. 7. Refold longwise. Holding each end, push to the middle to open up where you made the cut. 8. Push all the way in. 9. Fold the cover edge over to create the cover. Now it's a booklet!

A miscarriage caused by pills is the same as a natural miscarriage. If you want medical care in the next month, your pregnancy test will still be positive. Doctors provide treatment based on your symptoms, you don't have to share any other information with your doctor that you don't want to. Delete the digital record. Don’t let your digital footprint cause privacy leaks. Delete any record of your experience in case someone else uses your phone or computer: Delete text messages and empty deleted folder. A thread on lemmy.world, where "4 things white people can do to start making the fediverse" has a score of -49. The first comment is somebody saying "LMAO this is a joke right?" The next commen says "| honestly don't get it, to me | just see user IDs | haven't the slightest clue what race someone is or isn't on here. | vote solely based on whether they make a good point or a bad point."

Think before you boost!!!!

Keep in mind that breaking news often leads to false or partial reporting -- sometimes unintentionally, sometimes intentionally. Here are some good guidelines from On The Media to keep in mind.

Breaking News Consumer's handbook:" 1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong. 2. Don't trust anonymous sources. 3. Don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information. 4. There's almost never a second shooter. 5. Pay attention to the language the media uses. “We are getting reports’... could mean anything. “We are seeking confirmation”... means they don't have it. “[News outlet] has learned”... means it has a scoop or is going out on limb. 6. Look for news outlets close to the incident. 7. Compare multiple sources. 8. Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers. 9. Beware reflexive retweeting. Some of this is on you. On The Media.
