Most Mother’s Day gift guides stop at candles and bath bombs. But what if we looked deeper? This year, I’m talking about self-care that actually restores. The kind that reaches all the way into the body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
Mother’s Day Self-Care That Actually Heals, Not Just Looks Good on Instagram
Mother’s Day is often framed as a time to celebrate moms with flowers, cards, and gifts. But what so many mothers really need can’t be wrapped. They need rest, reconnection, and a moment to remember who they are beneath all the roles they carry. This post isn’t about pampering. It’s about healing. It’s about the kind of self-care that actually helps; for the moms we love, and for the caregiver inside each of us.

Saving Money on Plants: My Experiment with Bagged Bare-Roots
Every spring, big-box stores roll out their budget-friendly bare-root plants and bulbs in brightly colored plastic bags, promising dreams of lush growth for a fraction of the cost of nursery plants. But if you’ve ever bought them, you know the disappointment that usually gets me. Many are dried out, rotten, or just plain dead by the time planting season arrives.

1968 wasn't the best year for recipe development. This was the cream of the crop for Campbell's, so to speak. Here we have Swedish Meatloaf and Country-Fried Chicken.

This is where you go to tell the National Park Service to restore the word "transgender" in its entry on the Stonewall monument.

Has anyone been getting lots of emails from digital subscriptions for vital services (mine have been email hosting, web hosting, office apps, payroll service) with around 20% price increases in the last few weeks? It’s been infuriating.

Reimagining Homemaking
Hello, world! My name is Raymond Waller, and I’m excited to finally bring this blog to life. If there’s one thing I’ve spent my entire life trying to figure out, it’s how on earth to take care of myself and the people I love. In other words: homemaking. Me and my rescued poodle, Jordan. Homemaking has a complicated history. The basic tasks of daily life—cooking, cleaning, home repairs, gardening, decorating—have been weighed down with gender roles, religious expectations, societal trends, and even personal guilt.

I ordered this vintage Betty Crocker cookbook on eBay, and it came with the sweetest note from the seller, Sarah. It was her grandma’s, and she’s happy it’s getting a second life. I love knowing I’ll be its next caregiver—ready to cook and carry on its legacy! ❤️ #VintageCookbooks

It was so cold outside that the water bottles we leave for delivery drivers would flash freeze when I moved them! This happens because the water is supercooled below freezing but still liquid and crystallizes instantly when disturbed. So cool to watch! ❄️❄️ #WinterMagic #Science #FlashFreeze
