REAR WINDOW (1954)

Jeff and Lisa share a tense exchange:

Jeff: “You’re not meant for this kind of life. Did you ever try to keep warm in a C-54 at 15,000 ft at 20 below 0?"

Lisa: “Oh, I do it all the time - whenever I have a few minutes after lunch … "

Me: 😂😂 😂

Love the @mikebarnicle.bsky.social sportswriting segment about WS Game 6, 1975. Still love that moment and I’d love to read the article, so if anyone has a link please share - thanks!

"Give me steam ... "

- Peter Gabriel -

IMHO, everything in this photo comes together beautifully - lighting, makeup, clothing - creating this stunning image of the statuesque Aryna Sabalenka. See "alt" for link.

THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946)
#filmnoir #ThePostmanAlwaysRingsTwice

I've tried to watch it twice now, and it's just not working for me. TBH, at times I cringed. 😬

I enjoy noir, hardboiled characters + dialogue but IMO, this particular alchemy produced caricatures.

Came across this gem from 1966 with #SallyField - sigh - with a priceless article: "How to be confused without really trying" ... 🤣

I kinda grew up watching Ms. Field on TV. For me, she has always been adorable 🥰

"Tears came to Hermie’s eyes. It was hard for him to figure. Just looking at her caused him to cry. What could that possibly mean? Who cries upon observing beauty? What emotional depth had been plumbed by the very sight of her?"

Written and directed by Céline Sciamma. This is beautiful, truthful, brilliant filmmaking. Highly, highly recommend.

YOU ARE ALONE (2005)

Indie film tells the story of two lonely and depressed people that come together in a transactional hotel room meeting. High points include fine acting, writing, smart editing and a poignant soundtrack.

ROMANCE & CIGARETTES (2008)

Stumble into the middle of this gem - what a hoot! I'm looking forward to watching from the beginning!

As an American, the symbolism of last night's hockey game is not lost on me. I remember the "Miracle On Ice" and the pride I felt when Team U.S.A. beat the Russians - we were "the good guys". No more. Trump and the GOP have destroyed the good will of numerous allies.

I'm reminded of what @timothysnyder.bsky.social said about Authoritarians - like Trump - who attempt but fail to stay in power. He called these failed attempts "practice".

Watching the PBS coverage of President Carter's funeral service while listening to NPR coverage. The choir is phenomenal.

RIP President Carter, and thank you. God bless. God speed.

BOWFINGER (1999)

"YOU BASTAAAAAAAARD!!!"

Hilarious escapade of "filmmakers" pulling every stunt imaginable to make "Chubby Rain" a reality. Great comic performances all around, especially Heather Graham, Christine Baranski (always wonderful) and kudos to Eddie Murphy.
