No one is betting on TikTok being back for good. The general sentiment is wanting TikTok back long enough for a competitor to be born and so we all have a more central way of knowing where we’re going next

That reprieve had no legally binding guarantees. Honestly it seems like regardless of what TikTok did or didn’t want to do, Oracle would have never played ball with that situation

Hopefully we won’t be here for too long. TikTok folks liked the short(ish) form videos and the personalized algorithm for a reason.
I think the most realistic scenario, at least for the younger crowd, is back to TikTok for 4-6 months while the next big thing makes itself known

I mean, this drastically underestimates how disenchanted most Americans are with the system. If anything, the ban passing and being signed in the first place was a *lot* of people’s last straw bc it proved none of what we were told to do was worth anything

It’s less the text posts and more the sense of humor. The TikTok joke ecosystem moves so rapidly that seeing people still say “drumpf” is literally nuclear levels of cringe.
But there is a TikTok alternative that is currently in testing that ties into BlueSky so who knows🤷🏻♀️

The thing about TikTok was the reason it was so left leaning was bc so many of the users weren’t party affiliated to begin with. It’s why certain topics gained so much traction when the Democrats had failed on those matters for years, there was no party loyalty to complicate call outs

As someone who has been incredibly active on PolitiTok for years, it is a lot more complicated than he is even capable of comprehending. TikTok was far less “Pro-Trump” than it was “here is what we want” with an list of demands that went largely ignored.

It’s more likely it was decided by Oracle, who hosts the US servers for TikTok, Lemon8, and CapCut. Continued operations relied on essentially a “trust me bro” from Biden, and it’s very likely Oracle didn’t want to even toe the line of getting too close to midnight

I find this a really interesting take, as someone who has been active on multiple sites for years, because IME TikTok was fact checking the rumors that got spread on pre-Elon Twitter often days before anyone even tried over there. And we were talking about Trump’s involvement last week

I mean, “I won’t punish you if you break the law, trust me bro” from the guy who signed the ban (bc in this case, the origin is moot, he signed it and was enthusiastic about it) is a pretty compelling reason to use the shut down as a massive eff you to the administration
