The Long Memory

A blue dot in a red state with a full bookshelf and a long memory. #CoconutPilled
And just as I say that, here's another scorcher from today. Hopefully this will get our mostly useless institutional media off their asses long enough to cover one of the major candidates implying we won't have elections anymore.

For anyone who hasn't seen this yet, these near daily bangers from the Harris team just absolutely tearing the bark off King Con are healing my soul.

Every word of this from @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com. "How high do his odds of success have to be before you treat this as a genuine emergency? Is a 20 percent chance of losing our democracy too low? Is 30?" www.liberalcurrents.com/he-will-try/

“Dominating polls” when it’s within the margin of error even after 2 weeks of every media institution crusading for Biden to drop out. Simply stunning. We need to bully the Washington Post more.

Worth noting Brown started life as an entrepreneur/bar owner and teaches at Catholic University and Cowan is an economist who went to and taught at George Mason, so these are both natural Republicans. Also, I feel like this anecdote kinda speaks to his Serious Person credibility.

If anyone in a position of power in Tennessee actually cares about black letter law and not just maintaining the impunity of the powerful, this bit here was certainly a felony.

New hero just dropped. Any of you Atlanta folks shouldn’t be allowing this guy to buy his own drinks for at least the next six months.

My brother’s letterboxed review of Hillbilly Elegy remains the undefeated champ of the genre. 😂😂😂

We deserve a better class of pundits. These ones are telling on themselves. Listen fellas, we know the specter of an honest-to-god fascist takeover titillates you and gooses your page views and ad click throughs a bit, but it would actually be really bad. Even for you and your friends. I promise.

A couple years ago, I definitely would not have had me loving AOC on my bingo card. But here we are. The woman is good at politics.

This is by far the best thing I’ve read since @sjshancoxli.bsky.social’s call for a second American reconstruction. And before that the would’ve been the best thing I’d read in six months. It’s very much worth your time.

Goddamn. Another writer who really puts one’s own efforts in the shade.

This from Dan Drezner is great, especially 5 and 6.

No one has done more to improve the relative status of Roger Taney among SCOTUS justices than this court.

I need someone to explain to me how this isn’t our Reichstag Fire moment.

No obvious denominational link from their website, but this bit seems kind of revelatory.

Looolll this is like some shit my conspiracy-addled boomer aunt who's never lived in a city bigger than 100,000, and to my knowledge, never been to NYC, would post.

Literally cackled at that. Adding it to my collection alongside this classic.

If this isn’t a man who cares deeply about The Troops and their sacrifice, idk who is.

On Memorial Day, a useful reminder of some of what’s at stake in November.

Superb piece by @thomaszimmer.bsky.social diving into the debate on whether or not Trumpism should be considered an American form of fascism. This passage in particular was spot-on, but the whole thing is worth a read. thomaszimmer.substack.com/p/fascism-in...
