Just at the beginning you can hear the cranes. If you look at the centre of the screen in the clouds you can just make out a flight of cranes flying from right to left, heading North. Nature says winter is over. #stsulpicedeymet #eymet #spring #cranesflynorth #birdsmigrating

My very fetching yellow felt cap to protect my head from the helmet. Historically it may have been a felt cap, leather or other fabric. We don't know because it's natural material and nothing remains from that period. #thelegionary #rome #romanarmour #ancientrome #gaul #loricasegmentata

Today on the #Romanworkbench my #caligae. Despite being a sandal it was sometimes referred to as a boot in historical texts. You can clearly see the #hobnails which go through two layers of the leather sole and are bent over before the last insole layer. #caligae #romanhistory #roman #thelegionary

Replica of the axe on display at the Vésunna museum in Perigueux, France. Whilst it is tempting to label this as Roman the area of Vesunna was inhabited by the Petrocores a tribe renowned for their metal work. #vesunna #petrocores #thelegionary #ancientrome #rome #romans #perigueux #galloromaine

Preparation march carrying a very basic load of 40kgs. Some historical sources state that Roman soldiers may have marched up to 30kms in a day. Terrain, load and condition are all variables that are not discussed in historical sources.
