Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

This happened in Whitestown.

Come on Indiana, why do you have to be this way?
Before a housecleaner was mistaken for an intruder and fatally shot by an Indiana homeowner, police had previously visited that residence twice for “reports of suspicious activity” that turned out to be false, authorities say.
'Paranoid' homeowner had twice previously called police before deadly shooting
Curt Andersen, a 62-year-old Whitestown, Indiana resident, had long feared crime coming to his front door and had even designated a "safe room" in his house, police said.

With James Franklin hired at Virginia Tech, Michigan State has about a week to make a decision on Jonathan Smith. If they don't fire him after the game this weekend, he needs to stay in place for next year. You're going to miss out on too many good options if you wait until the end of the year.

This is some truly evil shit.
"Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, ERO, and CBP intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25."

It’s the Monday after Week 11 of the NFL season and the Chicago Bears are in first place.

It’s so much more fun to have the team holding on to the horseshoe than choking on it

If JJ McCarthy could play the Bears every game, he might actually live up to the hype.
November 16, 2025 at 8:57 PM
What sort of hex does Kevin O’Connell have over the Bears?
November 16, 2025 at 8:36 PM
-Vikings defense finally gets going
-Bears special teams gives up a big play
-McCarthy is left alive to do just one good thing.

This feels all too familiar

Michigan referees.

I take it all back. This is the perfect ACC Friday night game
Games like Clemson-Louisville make me want to go back to the time before review when refs just made a call and said fuck off to any questions. This game has been brutal to watch.

Since the invention of the politician there has been a desire to make it look like the public is all but forcing a candidate to run b/c that person is the only one who can save them. But recently there has been a huge wave of “my wife said I can’t turn my back on the people!” It’s so insufferable.

The man is most famous for getting out of the way and giving the ball off to actually talented players. A political ideology to match his playing style.

There are more red states in this country than blue. There is significantly more square miles controlled by red states than blue. The implicit acknowledgment here is it’s better to live in a blue state than a red state.
JD Vance: "One of the biggest challenges that we have in the housing market, aside from too many illegal aliens who are taking the houses of American citizens, is that in the blue states you're not building enough houses."

Michigan State looked like they were playing in mud most of the second half.

Learned today from @shutdownfullcast.bsky.social and @celebrityhottub.bsky.social that the top two teams in blood are also the top two teams in stadium alcohol sales, according to @mattbrown.bsky.social. Real chicken or the egg situation.

Then put a new deal on the table.

"Well, I guess I have to eat this rotten banana because it's on the table. Too bad I can't go to the kitchen to get literally anything else."
New Hampshire Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen tells NBC News' Ryan Nobles that the tentative agreement to end the shutdown is the “only deal on the table.” The deal does not include an extension of expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies — a major concession for Democrats.

I think what upsets me about that Jonathan Taylor touchdown is he did the thing that every person watching a football game for just the second time ever yells. “Just run away from that big pile! It’s wide open outside!”
